What students learn
Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.
At our school, all teaching and learning programs are guided by the NSW K–6 syllabus documents. Teachers use these curriculum frameworks to plan lessons that are engaging, challenging, and tailored to the needs of their students. The syllabus ensures a clear progression of learning across each stage, helping students build knowledge and skills year by year. By aligning our teaching with these standards, we provide a strong foundation that prepares every child for future success.
Key Learning Areas
English
English focuses on reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students learn to understand and enjoy a wide range of texts, express themselves clearly, and build strong communication skills that support all other areas of learning.
Mathematics
Mathematics develops students’ number sense, problem-solving skills, and ability to think logically. From exploring patterns and shapes to learning about measurement, data, and chance, students build confidence to use maths in everyday life.
Science and Technology
In Science and Technology, students explore the world around them through curiosity, questioning, and hands-on investigation. They learn about living things, the environment, materials, forces, and digital technologies while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE)
HSIE includes History and Geography. Students learn about the past, present, and future, and how people, places, and environments are connected. They develop an understanding of culture, community, and their role as active and informed citizens.
Creative Arts
Creative Arts allows students to express themselves through visual arts, music, drama, and dance. They explore ideas, experiment with different forms, and showcase their creativity, imagination, and personal expression.
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)
PDHPE helps students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to lead healthy, active, and safe lives. They learn about wellbeing, relationships, personal safety, and participate in physical activity to build fitness, coordination, and teamwork.

Our learning approach
Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly tell students what they are learning, why it is important and how to do it step by step. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts.
Learning at our school is student-centred, inclusive and practical. We are committed to equity and access. We support all learning styles and needs. Our teachers use proven teaching strategies. They take part in ongoing professional development to stay up to date with best teaching practice.
Our learning approach includes:
- real-world learning: hands-on tasks, group work and exploring new ideas
- technology: to help students learn and build digital skills
- flexible teaching: the right support for each student, with a focus on wellbeing
- community connections: through excursions and local programs.
Helping students progress
We believe every child deserves the right support to succeed. At our school, we use a range of strategies to help students grow in confidence, develop new skills, and achieve their personal best.
Checking progress and giving feedback
Teachers closely monitor each child’s learning and provide clear, timely feedback so students know what they are doing well and what they can work on next. This helps build confidence and keeps learning on track.
Setting learning goals with students
We involve students in setting personal learning goals. This gives them ownership of their progress, motivates them to achieve, and helps them understand how their learning connects to real-world skills.
Personalised plans and specialist support
Some students need extra help to thrive. We provide personalised learning plans, along with support from specialist staff such as learning support teachers and SLSOs, to ensure every child can access the curriculum and experience success.
Reporting to parents and carers
Families are kept informed of their child’s progress through regular reports and updates. We value open communication, so parents and carers always know how their child is progressing and how they can support learning at home.
Targeted Literacy and Numeracy support
When students need a boost in literacy or numeracy, we provide small-group support tailored to their needs. These focused sessions give children the extra practice and guidance they need to build strong foundations in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Wellbeing every day
We know that students learn best when they feel happy, safe, and supported. Wellbeing is part of everyday learning at our school, with programs and practices that help children build resilience, positive relationships, and confidence.
Working with families
Parents and carers are our partners in learning. We work closely with families to share strategies and ideas that support learning at school and at home, ensuring a consistent and supportive approach.
Supporting transitions
Big changes, like starting school or moving into a new stage of learning, can feel overwhelming. We support students through these transitions with tailored programs and guidance, making sure they feel prepared, confident, and ready to succeed.
