Some extra-curricular highlights

Extra-curricular Clubs and Activities

These are only some of the clubs and extra-curricular activities offered to our students.

Student Representative Council
Our Student Representative Council (SRC) includes two students from each class, representing all grades from Kindergarten to Year 6. The SRC serves as a vital link between students and staff, giving students a meaningful voice in school decisions and activities. Members work together to discuss ideas, organise events, and promote positive change that benefits the entire school community. Through their involvement, students develop valuable leadership skills such as effective communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making. The SRC also fosters a sense of responsibility and pride, encouraging students to become confident, respectful, and active contributors to their school. Meeting weekly, the SRC provides a supportive environment where students can grow as leaders while making a real difference in their school.
Cultural Dance

Our school is proud to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our community through our vibrant cultural dance groups. Students from Vietnamese, Chinese, and Pacific Islander backgrounds come together to share their heritage, learn traditional dances, and showcase their talents.

These groups perform regularly at school events, adding colour, energy, and pride to our celebrations. In 2024, our talented dancers had the incredible honour of performing for Their Majesties the King and Queen at the NSW Premier’s BBQ—a highlight that reflects their dedication and excellence.

Beyond our school gates, the groups are also invited to perform at other schools as part of multicultural day concerts, helping to build connections and foster understanding across communities. Through dance, our students not only honour their own cultures but also inspire others to appreciate the diversity that makes our school so special.

Contemporary Dance

Our contemporary dance groups give students the opportunity to express themselves creatively while developing their technique, confidence, and performance skills. Through dynamic choreography and modern dance styles, students explore movement, storytelling, and collaboration in a supportive and inspiring environment.

These groups perform regularly at school events and community celebrations, showcasing the incredible talent and dedication of our students. By participating, students not only refine their skills but also build teamwork, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the performing arts.

Digital Olympics
Established in 2024, Digital Olympics is a program for Stage 3 students to build coding skills and explore digital technologies in the Digital Age. Our team trains by working cooperatively and represents the school in friendly competitions against other local schools. Students take on challenges using tools such as micro:bit, LEGO Spike, Sphero BOLT+, and more. This showcases their extensive knowledge of the Digital Technologies curriculum, and develops their problem-solving, collaboration and creative skills in the realm of robots.
Men-to-Be

The Men to Be program provides a unique opportunity for selected students to develop positive habits and essential life skills. Running every Monday morning at 8:30am, the program encourages students to start their week with purpose, promoting consistent attendance and punctuality.

Facilitated by Mr. Tram and Mr. Ngo, the program combines structured sporting activities with lessons in teamwork, resilience, and leadership. Students participate in engaging games and challenges that build sportsmanship, strengthen peer relationships, and foster a healthy, active lifestyle.

Beyond the physical activities, Men to Be aims to nurture respect, responsibility, and a growth mindset- qualities that empower students to succeed both in and out of the classroom. With a strong focus on collaboration and positive behaviour, the program helps participants build confidence, develop problem-solving skills, and embrace the values of perseverance and fair play.

By investing in these young men, the Men to Be program sets them on a pathway to becoming role models in their school and community—individuals who show commitment, resilience, and the ability to lead with integrity.

Academic Challenge

Each year, Canley Heights Public School proudly represents our community in the Academic Challenge held at Fairfield High School, joining six other local schools in this exciting and enriching event. The Academic Challenge, held once each term, is a friendly skills-based competition designed to test students’ abilities across a wide range of Key Learning Areas (KLAs).

More than just a competition, the initiative fosters excellence, collaboration, and holistic development through the four domains of High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE): Creative, Physical, Social-Emotional, and Intellectual. Students are encouraged to showcase their strengths, work together, and challenge themselves in new and engaging ways.

Since its launch in 2019, the Academic Challenge has grown into a highlight of the school calendar. Canley Heights has established itself as a strong contender, securing four out of six championships since the program began. This year, the competition has been tougher than ever. Our students are currently placed second overall, with one final challenge remaining in Term 4.

As the current reigning champions, our school community is eager to see if Canley Heights can once again rise to the top. Regardless of the outcome, the dedication and spirit shown by our students demonstrates their commitment to learning, teamwork, and striving for their best.

The Academic Challenge continues to inspire students to aim high, think creatively, and build lasting connections with peers from across the local area.

Media Club

At Canley Heights Public School, our Media Club gives students the chance to become reporters, anchors and interviewers. Each term, students work together to create exciting episodes that share school events, celebrate achievements, and spread important messages across our community.

Through Media Club, students build confidence, practise teamwork, and develop skills in communication, technology, and creativity - all while having fun and taking pride in representing their school.

Playground Activity Leaders (PALs)

The PALs program offered at our school aims to encourage healthier and more active playtime; one that is harmonious and reduces the potential for minor dispute. PALs are friendly, approachable students who do not replace the role of the teacher in sorting out problems, but are a support to the children and staff on duty.

Through the training and development program offered at our school, PALs strengthen their leadership skills, communication, conflict resolution, collaboration, problem-solving, organisational, responsibility, empathy and social awareness skills. These skills are transferable and beneficial for personal growth, future education, and career opportunities.

A PALs’ role is to organise games, encourage inclusive participation, promote safe and positive interactions and help manage behaviour on the playground. By doing so, they help create a fun, engaging and safe environment where children develop social skills, physical fitness and confidence through play.
