Statement of philosophy

At Canley Heights Public School Preschool, we are committed to fostering a warm, supportive, and nurturing environment where children feel secure to explore, develop independence, and embrace new experiences that cultivate a strong sense of belonging. Our philosophy is anchored in the Early Years Learning Framework, emphasising the principles of Belonging, Being, and Becoming.

We recognise children as capable and competent learners and strive to support their journey toward becoming active participants in their own education. Our approach is designed to meet each child’s unique needs and abilities by offering a wide range of meaningful learning experiences. These opportunities are thoughtfully chosen to reflect the children’s interests and build on their previous experiences, both inside and outside the preschool environment. By fostering positive relationships with peers and educators, we enhance children’s sense of self and encourage engagement with diverse learning opportunities. We also honour the unique pace at which each child learns and ensure they have a voice in decisions that affect their learning.

The educators at Canley Heights Public School Preschool play a vital role in nurturing children’s independence and resilience. We value the specialised knowledge and skills of our staff and maintain a strong commitment to reflective practice and continuous professional development. Our play-based curriculum offers numerous opportunities for children to build literacy and numeracy skills through social interaction. Through explicit teaching and role modelling, we cultivate positive learning dispositions such as persistence, cooperation, and resilience. We work collaboratively with K-6 teachers and staff to ensure seamless transition processes that prepare children effectively for school. Additionally, we are dedicated to the ongoing development and review of policies and procedures, professional learning, and actively involving families and children in planning and implementing safe and enriching practices.

Recognising that parents are children’s first and most influential teachers, we strive to create an inviting atmosphere where families feel welcomed and encouraged to communicate openly with educators regarding their child’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. We view families as essential partners in learning, inviting them to share their knowledge, traditions, and culture. Our preschool is a shared space that honours and celebrates the rich cultural diversity of our community. Through collaborative decision-making, we stimulate children’s curiosity and promote meaningful play experiences in a joyful and engaging environment. We also provide families with guidance on child development and the critical role of learning through play.
